Mrs.
Hunter’s Hive
Dear Parents,
Welcome to first grade! I
am very excited to be your child’s teacher.
We are going to be very busy learning.
I want your child to be well-rounded and also to develop good
self-esteem. I believe that learning and discovering new things should be fun
and exciting. I want to share with you
some of the procedures in our classroom.
Volunteers
PLEASE be aware this will
not begin until after Labor Day. We need to do some testing and will be
learning rules and procedures.
Your involvement has a
tremendous effect on your child’s learning.
The more volunteers, the better!
Homework
First grade (full day of
school) is an adjustment for many first graders and they may come home
tired. Thus during the first part of the
year homework assignments will only be given occasionally. Homework will
include home reading and spelling practice.
Star Student
Students brought home a
poster. They need to fill it in and color
it. They can draw pictures or add
photos. I will display the poster for
one week then the student can take it home.
Home Reading
Please read to and with
your child each night for 10-15 minutes.
This will greatly help your child recognize letters, sounds and words
while he/she is learning and expanding their reading skills. Soon a book bag and a reading log will begin
to come home. Please try to read these
books as they come home. The book bags
should be returned daily.
Birthdays
If you would like to bring
a treat to celebrate your child’s birthday it would be great. BUT this is your choice. Please remember it needs
to be something packaged. Those
with summer birthdays will celebrate an un-birthday. (I will pick a day and let
you know)
Birthday Invites
Please only send
invitations to school if you are inviting the entire
class. Or ALL the boys or
ALL the girls
Coats/Backpacks and Lunch Boxes
Please make sure that all
of your child’s belongings are labeled with first and last name.
Book Orders
I will be sending book
orders home once a month. Please do not
feel obligated to buy from these orders.
You can make your order online or make checks payable to scholastic.
